YOUTH

The benefits children receive through learning music are immeasurable. The study of music connects with every kind of intelligence and will enhance a child’s emotional, physical, creative and quantitative development. Apart from providing a fun-filled and exciting activity, learning to sing or play an instrument improves a child’s hand-eye coordination, memory and concentration. It also helps build confidence, as students learn to present themselves to an audience and perform under pressure.

Many of Gavan’s younger students undertake RCM examinations and compete annually in the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival and the Canadian Music Competition. Further performance experience can be obtained through choir membership, ORMTA student recitals and masterclass participation. Several of Gavan’s students have gone on to pursue careers in music, studying piano and voice at the postsecondary level, both in Canada and abroad.
